Product Description

The schooner AMERICA is still the most important and famous name in the history of yachting. Built in 1851, he won over the English squadron (17 yachts) the 100 guinees race around Isle of Wight in England after crossing the Atlantic under New Yorker Dick Brown’s command. AMERICA with it’s pulled back beam, refined lines, low draught, lighter redefined sail plan made out of cotton fabric was ahead of it’s time. She was crushed underneath a hangar when the roof collapsed from heavy snow fall in 1942.Only the carved eagle standing at the poop survives at the NYYC.. The 1861 ‘100 guinees cup’ became the ‘America Cup’ and is still the most important world regatta. The brewing company Shaeffer decided to revive America for a promotional campaign around the United States. The hull is now painted black and while the exterior complies with the original, the interior is now functional. The next owner, Carlos Perdomo, had it repaint in white for better maintenance in warm seas and fit out a luxurious interior. Under Paul Deeth ownership, America had her major refit in 1997 while another replica was launched.
